Health Lighting
SUFN Lighting was founded in June 2011 and has worked on healthy light for 15 years. Three technology lines, three healthy-lighting goals: Visual — light that is comfortable, free of glare and free of flicker, so people see clearly and see comfortably. Physiological — using the non-visual effects of light to regulate melatonin secretion and the circadian rhythm: light that keeps people awake and efficient by day, and helps them relax and fall asleep at night; Psychological and emotional — light environments that make people feel relaxed, pleased or focused, improving how they feel.
SUFN Lighting has worked on healthy-lighting research and application since 2011, in university–industry partnership with the School of Psychology and Cognitive Science at Peking University, Qingdao University of Technology and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2026 it joined the multi-institute interdisciplinary team at CIK Rare-Earth, led by CAS Academician Zhang Hongjie, on dedicated research into how light affects human vision and higher brain function. That work resolves into three technical directions carried into product development and application: optimising the quality of light colour, tuning wavelength to address axial-length questions, and building a sound distribution of light within a space.

Health lighting is easy to turn into a slogan, so every step is stated with its quantity. From animal work to school pilots, each step is measurable.
| Stage | Period | Method | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fundamental research | 2012–2022 | A multi-institute CIK team led by CAS Academician Zhang Hongjie, on how light affects vision and higher brain function | 10 years of fundamental research |
| Animal work | 8 years | Led by the Hu Xintian team at the Kunming Institute of Zoology: 200+, grouped by experimental purpose, ERG and axial length measured monthly, NIH standards throughout | Established the photobiological evidence base |
| School pilots | Sep 2021 – Oct 2022 | Piloted in 118 schools with 4,000+ followed | Myopia growth 8.8% (control) to 5.8% (fitted), a 3-point reduction |
| Industrialisation | April 2026 | SUFN and CIK Rare-Earth signed a strategic agreement to co-develop axial-control tape and spotlights | Research reached the product range |
